What is the Ansari Fellowship Program?

The Ansari Fellowship Program seeks to encourage and empower young Iranian-Americans to pursue careers in public service. In its inaugural year, the program will provide one undergraduate and one graduate student with funding up to $2,500 each for an unpaid summer internship in the field of public service. The fellow will also have access to a network of public policy experts and mentors through the Public Affairs Alliance of Iranian-Americans. The program is funded by Bijan and Fariba Ansari, and founded and managed by Yassamin Ansari. 

Who is Eligible to apply?

For the undergraduate fellowship, we will accept applications from rising sophomores, juniors, seniors, or recent graduates. For the graduate fellowship, we will accept applications from students at all levels of their studies. We welcome applications from any major field of study and from a wide variety of extracurricular and professional backgrounds; US citizenship required. 

WHO IS THE IDEAL CANDIDATE?

We are looking for young Iranian-American change-makers with a demonstrated commitment to improving the lives of others. The selection committee will also consider the following criteria when evaluating applicants: record of academic achievement; passion, vitality and initiative; leadership potential and ability to influence and mobilize others to action. 

What are the application requirements?

The application will open in February 2017. Required materials will include a resume, transcripts, short answer questions, an essay, and reference information. The application will be due on April 30, 2017. Most importantly, the applicant will need to have secured an internship (unpaid) by the time the application is due and demonstrate proof of this. For those applicants still waiting to hear back at the time of the application deadline, exceptions will be made on a case-by-case basis. 

What is required of the selected fellows?

Selected fellows will be asked to write at least two blog posts highlighting their experiences and takeaways from the fellowship. In addition, fellows will be invited and encouraged to participate in relevant leadership training and opportunities. More information on such opportunities will be made available in 2017. 

what is the selection process?

The selection process for the Ansari Fellowship Program will be highly competitive. Following the April 2017 deadline, the selection committee will review all applications and rank candidates based on a set of predetermined criteria. There will be no interviews as part of the process. Final selections will be made in May 2017, and applicants will be notified of the decision shortly thereafter.
